We Need Your Help!

Attention Families & Friends of Barnstable United Elementary!

It's voting season and the presidential race isn't the only important event. In 11 days, voting begins online for the Chlorox Power A Bright Future education grants. In an effort to raise money for the renovation of our courtyard, our school has filed an application  — there are multiple $25,000 awards and one $50,000 award!

The goal is to get our school community and the greater Barnstable community behind this project by encouraging everyone to vote once daily while the voting window is open. We are competing with 2,570 other schools from around the country, but with everyone's support we stand a solid chance of getting this grant. Ironically, we actually do need great quantities of Chlorox products to clean the concrete areas of the courtyard space. Check out our statement in the Gallery of Nominees.
In an era when students are spending so much of their time indoors, we want to give them an opportunity to engage in structured learning activities relating to art, music, theater, science, math, and reading in a clean, safe outdoor space.
Please bookmark this site https://powerabrightfuture.clorox.com/nominees/ and vote daily. Voters must be 13 years of age or older, but fourth and fifth graders can be a part of the process by spreading the word to parents, guardians, grandparents, neighbors, and friends to V O T E !

In the Courtyard

We have been keeping our eyes on the cleanup taking place in our courtyard. Our classroom's windows are the perfect vantage point! Mr. Gyra, a science teacher at our local high school who was responsible for coordinating efforts to create the Astro Park there, is lending his expertise and connections to the redesign of our courtyard area. A project of this magnitude truly is a community endeavor requiring the support of many dedicated parents, teachers, and local businesses. In the end, students will reap the benefits of having an enhanced space for educational and creative pursuits.

Students in Room 244 are interested in the courtyard improvements and are ready to help in any way we can. Today we went out take a look and had a spirited discussion about the Vikings in the amphitheater area. Here are a couple of "before" pictures. We'll keep you posted on the progress . . .
